Beantwortung der Frage: Was ist Aufklärung? (1784)
Aufklärung ist der Ausgang des Menschen aus seiner selbst verschuldeten
Unmündigkeit. Unmündigkeit ist das Unvermögen, sich seines Verstandes
ohne Leitung eines anderen zu bedienen. Selbst verschuldet ist diese
Unmündigkeit, wenn die Ursache derselben nicht am Mangel des
Verstandes, sondern der Entschließung und des Mutes liegt, dich seiner
ohne Leitung eines anderen zu bedienen! Sapre aude! Habe Mut, dich
deines eigenen Verstandes zu bedienen! ist also der Wahlspruch der
Aufklärung.
Faulheit und Feigheit sind die Ursachen, warum ein so großer Teil der
Menschheit, nachdem sie die Natur längst von fremder Leitung
freigesprochen haben (naturaliter majorennes), dennoch gerne zeitlebens
unmündig bleiben; und warum es anderen so leicht wird, sich zu deren
Vormündern aufzuwerfen. Es ist so bequem, unmündig zu sein. Habe ich
ein Buch, das für mich Verstand hat, einen Seelsorger, der für mich
Gewissen hat, eine Arzt, der für mich die Diät beurteilt usw., so brauche
ich mich ja nicht selbst zu bemühen. Ich habe nicht nötig zu denken, wenn
ich nur bezahlen kann; andere werden das verdrießliche Geschäft schon
für mich übernehmen.

kein Dienst an der Neutralität !
Die Teilnahme des österreichischen Bundesheeres an der Afghanistantruppe
ist kein Dienst an der Neutralität unseres Landes. Im Gegenteil: Mit diesem
Schritt der Entsendung österreichischer Soldaten nach Mittelasien will man
die Bevölkerung unseres Landes auf die Teilnahme des Bundesheeres an
weiteren Kriegen der Reichen gegen die Armen vorbereiten.
Echte Friedenspolitik sieht anders aus als diese Absicherung des
fortdauernden
Bombenkrieges der USA.

Presseerklaerung des Bundesvorstandes der Roten Hilfe e.V. zur
Entscheidung
von Richter Yohn im Falle Mumia Abu-Jamal
Freiheit fuer Mumia Abu-Jamal - Jetzt erst recht!
Am 18. Dezember 2001 entschied Bundesrichter Wilhelm Yohn in
Philadelphia,
den Antrag Mumia Abu-Jamals auf UEberpruefung der verfassungsmaessigen
Rechtmaessigkeit seiner Inhaftierung, den Habeas-Corpus-Antrag, in
fast allen
Punkten abzulehnen. Bis auf einen einzigen Punkt mit allerdings
weitreichenden Folgen: Er hat das Todesurteil vorlaeufig aufgehoben
und die
Umwandlung in eine lebenslaengliche Haftstrafe in Aussicht gestellt.
Er hat angeordnet, dass eine neue Jury innerhalb von 180 Tagen
darueber
befinden muss, ob Mumia Abu-Jamal erneut zum Tode oder "nur" zu
lebenslaenglich, einer Hinrichtung auf Raten, verurteilt wird. Kommt
innerhalb dieser 180 Tage kein neuer Geschworenenspruch zu Stande,
lautet
die Strafe automatisch lebenslaenglich. Sowohl Staatsanwaltschaft wie
auch
Verteidigung haben bereits angekuendigt, Berufung einlegen zu wollen.
Seit nunmehr 20 Jahren sitzt der afroamerikanische politische
Gefangene
Mumia Abu-Jamal nachweislich unschuldig in der Todeszelle. Er wird
beschuldigt, den Polizeiofficer Daniel Faulkner ermordet zu haben.
Seitdem
kaempft Mumia Abu-Jamal um sein Leben und seine Freiheit,
unterstuetzt von
Millionen Menschen weltweit. Sogar einige nationale Parlamente und
ParlamentarierInnen unterstuetzen ein Wiederaufnahmeverfahren und
erst vor
wenigen Wochen wurde er zum Ehrenbuerger von Paris ernannt.
Mumia Abu-Jamal wurde in einem rassistisch motivierten Verfahren fuer
einen
Mord verurteilt, den er nicht begangen hat. ZeugInnen und entlastende
Beweise, die seine Aussagen bestaetigen, wurden und werden nicht zum
Verfahren zugelassen. Ihm wurde das Recht auf Selbstverteidigung nicht
zugestanden, ZeugInnen wurden von der Polizei eingeschuechtert und
bestochen,
die Jury wurde manipuliert.
Mumia ist ein politischer Gefangener in der Todeszelle, aehnlich wie
in den
20er Jahren Sacco und Vanzetti, aehnlich den Eheleuten Rosenberg in
den
50ern. Diese wurden aus politischen Gruenden hingerichtet. Dies darf
nie
wieder geschehen. Aber auch fuer lebenslaengliche Haft auf Grund
politischer
Betaetigung gibt es reihenweise Beispiele nicht nur in den USA.
Erwaehnt sei
hier nur beispielhaft der Aktivist des American Indian Movement
Leonard
Peltier.
Allen gemeinsam ist das "Verbrechen" politisch gegen das System in
den USA
gekaempft zu haben. Mumia Abu-Jamal kaempfte als Journalist u.a. gegen
rassistische Polizeirepression. Zu Beginn seiner politischen
Taetigkeit trat
er der revolutionaeren Black Panther Party bei. Heute arbeitet er
z.B. mit
der Gruppe "Move" zusammen oder verfasst politische Kolumnen fuer
Tageszeitungen rund um den Globus.
Hintergrund seiner fortdauernden Inhaftierung und der immer noch
bestehenden
Moeglichkeit seiner legalen Ermordung ist seine fortdauernde
politische
Aktivitaet - auch aus der Todeszelle heraus. Die Herrschenden haben
es bisher
nicht geschafft, die "Stimme der Stimmlosen" zum Schweigen zu
bringen. Nun
soll er - wenn schon nicht hingerichtet - lebenslaenglich begraben
werden.
Die Rote Hilfe e.V. wird, wie viele andere Menschen und Organisationen
weltweit, diese Entscheidung nicht akzeptieren und den Kampf fuer das
Leben
und die Freiheit von Mumia Abu-Jamal fortsetzen.
Der Versuch, durch diese Entscheidung die Solidaritaetsbewegung zu
spalten,
darf nicht aufgehen.
Wir fordern daher alle demokratisch gesinnten Menschen und
Organisationen
auf, mit noch lauterer Stimme die Forderung nach Freiheit fuer Mumia
Abu-Jamal und allen anderen politischen Gefangenen zu erheben.

Vor ein paar Wochen machten wir bereits auf die Prozesse gegen
engagierte Antifaschisten aus der Oberlausitz aufmerksam. Die
Jugendlichen wurden am 09. Dezember 2000 auf dem Dresdener
Striezelmarkt von Nazis angegriffen, anschliessend von der Polizei
verhaftet, misshandelt und mehrere Stunden ihrer Freiheit beraubt.
Dazu gibt es jetzt Neuigkeiten.
Olaf W. wird angeklagt, wegen Widerstand gegen Vollstreckungsbeamte
und unerlaubtem Waffenbesitz. Die Verhandlung findet am 09. Januar im
Amtsgericht Loebau statt. Sein Verbrechen: Er setzte sich gegen
pruegelnde Nazis zur Wehr und konnte einem Angreifer dabei einen
Schlagring entreissen. Dies wird ihm jetzt zum Verhaengnis. Nicht er
ist das Opfer, sondern der Nazi, dem jetzt ein Schlagring fehlt! Vor
den Augen von hunderten Besuchern des
Striezelmarktes wurde er von den Beamten der "Pruegelgarde" blutig und
halb bewusstlos geschlagen. Und dies, obwohl er keinerlei aktiven
Widerstand leistete!
Dann wurde er verhaftet und etliche Stunden seiner Freiheit beraubt.
Torsten E. wird angeklagt, wegen Widerstand gegen
Vollstreckungsbeamte. Die Verhandlung findet am 21. Januar 2002 im
Amtsgericht Loebau statt. Sein Verbrechen: Er setzte sich gegen
Neofaschisten zur Wehr! Deshalb bekam er einen voellig rechtswidrigen
Platzverweis. Als er diesem offensichtlich nicht nachkam, wurde er
von Beamten der "Pruegelgarde" zusammengeschlagen und verhaftet.
Danach wurde er mehrere Stunden im Gestapo-Knast "Schiessgasse"
festgehalten und von Beamten misshandelt. Sein Bruder musste sich das
mit
ansehen!
Bereits am 27. November 2001, gab es die erste Verhandlung gegen René
L. Auch er wurde wegen des Widerstandes gegen Vollstreckungsbeamte
angeklagt und zu einer Geldstrafe von 250,- DM verurteilt. Obwohl es
zu den Geschehnissen mehrere Zeugen gibt, wurde bei der Verhandlung
kein Einziger gehoert! Der Richter Hr. Rausch, welcher auch als
"Nazirichter Rausch" bekannt ist, provozierte René L. waehrend der
Verhandlung mit Worten, wie
"Haste jetzt extra den Iro abgeschnitten?", "Gehste jetzt arbeiten
oder machste immernoch so auf Assi?" Ebenso drohte er mit einer
nochmaligen Verhandlung gegen alle beteiligten Antifaschisten und
schien besonderen Spass dabei zu empfinden, gegen einen Jugendlichen,
in welchem er offensichtlich einen "Anfuehrer" vermutet, die Drohung,
"er werde ihm den Kopf
abreissen", zu aeussern.
Dies schilderten uns die betroffenen Jugendlichen.

SIKH REPRESENTATIVES MEET U.S. CONGRESSIONAL LEADERS

Under the Dome of The Capitol. Three Months to the Day. The Sikhs Remember
and Move Forward. It was an evening to remember in Washington D.C.. On
Tuesday, December 11, three months to the day, after the September 11
Tragedy, Sikh Leadership of all ages from the across the United States and
Canada gathered under the dome of U.S. Capitol Building for the First
Annual "One Nation United Memorial Program" sponsored by the Washington
based Sikh Council on Religion and Education. They came to remember, to
pray and to stand together as a community.
They were not alone! Senators, Members of Congress, Government officials
and top leadership from Commerce, Labor and the Interfaith Communities
turned out to show their support and solidarity. The lawmakers and Capitol
Hill staffers representing both major American political parties attended
the standing room only event. Some of the many luminaries included:
Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, Senator Richard Durbin, Senator Jeff
Bingaman, Congressman Mike Honda, Congresswoman Connie Morella, Congressman
Tom Udall, Congressman Ed. Royce, Congressman David Bonior, Congressman
Rush Holt, Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren as well as officials of the Executive
Branch representing the Justice Department and the Department of
Transportation Also in attendance was Congressman J.D.Hayworth whose
district includes Mesa, Arizona where Mr. Balbir Singh Sodhi's life was
taken.
This was the first event of its kind for the Sikh Community to host in
Washington. The program started with a welcome and prayer by Fr. Daniel
Coughlin, Chaplain of U.S. House of Representatives. Interfaith prayers
followed from Christian, Jewish, Sikh and Islamic clergy. Reverend C.
Welton Gaddy, National Director of the Interfaith Alliance, the leading
U.S. interfaith organization, provided the Invocation. The melodious sounds
of the Sikh Kirtan, performed by Bhai Gurdarshan Singh and Sawinder Singh
of Maryland and Bhai Mohinder Singh from Chicago, reverberated from the
walls of the Capitol Building.
A Memorial Service and Tribute was paid to the countless victims and heroes
of the September 11th Tragedy and its aftermath. Balbir Singh Sodhi, the
first person to be killed as a result of 9/11, in Mesa, Arizona, hate
crime was a focal point of the solemn ceremony. His son, and brother, were
in attendance and participated. Guru Roop Kaur Khalsa, a leader of the
Arizona Sikh Community & representative of Sikhnet.com, delivered a tearful
and personal tribute to his memory.
Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton delivered a strong and compassionate speech
to those in attendance. "We will always remember the sacrifices that were
made by the Sikh Community in the wake of the terrible terrorist attacks of
Sept. 11. No community suffered greater loss as a reaction to the terrible
losses" on that fateful Tuesday in September. "I offer my condolences and
sympathy to the entire community".
In underscoring and praising the critical work that Sikh Organizations have
been doing in educating the public, Senator Clinton said "there were many
Americans who did not know what a Sikh was, did not understand the rich
history, traditions, beliefs of the Sikh people" prior to September 11. "My
husband and I were privileged to have friends and many supporters who are
Sikhs".
Firefighter Bill King, a member of NYFD Engine No. 6, was present and
remembered his fallen comrades who heroically perished trying to save lives
during the collapse of the World Trade Center. Clearly moved by the
occasion, Mr. King summed up his personal thoughts, and captured the
essence of the program, when he commented after the program, "it was very
gratifying to see how compassionate and understanding the Sikh community is
regarding the events surrounding September 11th and its aftermath. I was
shocked and dismayed to learn more of the tragic death of a member of the
community and the devastation it wreaked on his family. I'm glad I was
able to share in an outpouring of sympathy from the community and to pray
for healing and understanding in these difficult times."
Senator Richard Durbin and Congressman Mike Honda were the Guests of Honor.
The Senior Senator from Illinois in summarizing what inspired him to
introduce his resolution in the Senate recalled that "on the morning of
September 11, 2001, our world as we knew it changed forever. Unfortunately,
in the aftermath of September 11, there were those, who in misguided anger
and fear turned on their neighbors and fellow Americans."
He proudly reflected upon his Lithuanian Ancestry and the broad cross
section of cultures, nationalities and religious freedoms that have made
America great. noting that "we must embrace the diversity that makes
America what it is, a diversity that our enemies cannot understand or
accept. We are a land of immigrants, and from the beginning of our Nation's
history, we have always welcomed people from other nations. Of the
thousands who perished that tragic day of September 11, citizens of over 80
countries were included among Americans. Sikh-Americans share with us the
pain and sorrow of September 11 tragedy. Hate crimes and violence,
especially violence stemming from bias and bigotry should never be
tolerated. That is why I submitted the resolution condemning bigotry and
violence against Sikh Americans."
Congressman Mike Honda, who sponsored the House resolution condemning the
attacks on Sikhs, "It is a testament to the integrity of the Sikh American
community that so many people of different faiths and backgrounds have come
together to support them and join us in our effort to promote racial and
religious tolerance in the aftermath of September 11th.I am very pleased to
have worked with the Sikhs to convince Congress to pass a Resolution that
informs all those who would target their fellow Americans simply because of
their appearance or faith, that acts of hatred and brutality will never
stand and will not be tolerated."
He assured those in attendance that he would "continue to work with Sikh
Americans, Arab Americans and all the groups representing the diverse
mosaic of culture and religion in our nation to protect our most sacred
principles of civil liberty and free exercise of religion"
Calling his murder a tragedy that should have never happened, U.S. Rep. Ed
Royce addressed the tragic consequences of hate during the memorial service
for Balbir Singh Sodhi. "We all mourn this loss. He was the father of
five children and moved to the United States 10 years ago. Neighbors and
customers said that he always had a kind word to say and that he used to
hand out candy to children. It is nothing short of a tragedy that someone
would take his life in such a cold-blooded way," Royce said.
Royce, co-chairman of the Congressional Caucus on India, praised the
courage and strength of the 500,000 Sikh-Americans. "Sikh-Americans have
suffered both verbal and physical assaults as a result of misguided anger
toward the Taliban," Royce said. "This is only the latest hardship Sikhs
have endured through a long history of oppression, but their faith, courage
and strength will carry them through."
He also said out that every American, regardless of their background,
should be treated with respect and dignity and should promote religious
tolerance. In fact, Royce recently asked Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee
Baca, Orange County Sheriff Mike Carona and local district attorneys to
prosecute acts of violence, intimidation and hate crimes against the to the
fullest extent of the law. "I am proud to be an original cosponsor of a
resolution in Congress condemning bigotry and violence against
Sikh-Americans. Every American should be treated with respect and dignity,
and we should all work harder at promoting religious tolerance in the
United States and India," Royce said.
Congressman Tom Udall observed that through it all, the American people and
the Sikh Community in the United States have persevered and come together.
"Out of the heart of darkness comes the heartbeat of renewal. With their
support, the Sikh community has shown that they are going to be full
partners in restoring New York to its rightful place and I thank them."
In summary, Dr Rajwant Singh, Founding President of the Sikh Council said,
"The tragic events of September 11 brought out the very best in most of us
as individuals and as a country. Unfortunately, at a time of great grief,
sorrow and heightened security, the aftershocks were not altogether
positive. Sikh leaders, and friends of the Sikh Community, representing
California, New York, Illinois, Florida, New Jersey, Delaware, Virginia,
Maryland, Arizona, New Mexico, the District of Columbia and Canada were
here with us today. They came to grieve, to be heard, to support each
other and renew their commitment to their faith and country. They left
motivated to do what is necessary to play a role in the community and
society."
Placing the program in context, Dr. Singh emphasized, "The One Nation
United Memorial Program was indeed the culmination of a lot of blood seat
and tears, but should be viewed as the beginning not the end. What
September 11 taught us is that we have much work to do and that we cannot
expect the general public to know about Sikhism, our virtues and our
values. To the contrary, it our responsibility to be proactive, to educate,
to be involved and to reach out. In the end, our measure of success will
be what we do to build upon the foundation of understanding that we
witnessed tonight."
In addition to the "One Nation United Memorial Program," the Sikh Council
has been active on a number of fronts since the September 11 Tragedy. On
September 26, Dr. Singh was asked to serve as spokesperson, by the White
House, when President Bush met with Sikh leaders from around the country to
discuss the severity of the crisis. The organization represented the Sikh
Community at the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People
(NAACP) 6th National Religious Leaders Summit, in late October, as well as
worked with other Sikh Organizations to secure passage of the
aforementioned Congressional Resolution.

FROM MUMIA ABU-JAMAL: A DAILY TERROR
The power of the media to condition consciousness is vast.
For, with the merest mention of a word--say, for instance,
"terror"--a flood of images roar through the mind, like a
well-placed row of dominoes, each falling one into the
other, tumbling like a hard, dry, crackling wave: terror,
terrorism, the twin towers of midtown Manhattan, planes
circling like metallic vultures, plunging into solid rock
and steel, flames, smoke and humans blown into dry dust.
Osama bin-Laden; Mullah Omar; Saddam Hussein (fill in the
blanks).
Those are the thoughts we have been conditioned to think by
the media. We have virtually no choice in the matter.
There is, though, another terror that ravages the land. It
affects not thousands, but millions. It affects Whites,
Blacks, Anglos, Latinos, Citizens, Immigrants, Male, Female,
Gay, Straight, Jew, Gentile, North erner, Southerner, from
Maine to Mississippi.
It is the terror of financial failure. The terror of not
getting next week's paycheck. The terror of being fired; of
being unable to pay rent (or the mortgage); of seeing one's
children wracked by hunger.
This is the silent terror; the hidden terror. Indeed, it is
the invisible terror that is all too real. It is one that
the state not only refuses to fight, but refuses to
acknowledge.
After the Sept. 11th disaster, at least 800,000 people have
lost their jobs. Dishwashers, maids, hotel workers, computer
employees, travel agents, booking agents, and the like. But
as stunning as that figure seems to be, it is but a mere
percentage of a larger problem.
Before the 11th of September, indeed, according to economic
indicators since March 2001, at least 8 million people were
out of work due to the economic recession.
8,000,000 PEOPLE!
8,000,000 invisible souls, unemployed, gripped by a terror
that almost defies description.
Why is that not a national emergency?
Why no mass mobilization, nor media-orchestrated outrage? Is
it because they are poor, and the poor are expendable?
The corporate media, the possession and instrument of the
wealthy, has no interest (and sees no profit) in educating
either the poor or working poor in the failures of an
economic theory or system which works for them yet betrays
the poor. It is not in the interest of the established to
show the holes in the "economic miracle." Globalists wish to
ignore this ugly reality.
What does the Dow Jones Industrial Average, or the S&P rate,
or the latest Nasdaq mean to 8 million unemployed?
A year ago, economists were proclaiming the end of the
business cycle, boasting that the only way stocks could go
was up. Their boasts came on the eve of a recession.
In a time when the poor are treated like lepers, when their
dreams are dashed, a daily terror reigns.

A PRESIDENT IN QUARATINE
The President of Israel wanted to go to Ramallah.
Sharon shut him up in his palace.
Sharon is afraid that if the President would make a
speech in the Palestinian parliament in Ramallah,
Arafat would have to be invited to make a speech in the
Knesset.
In 1969 Nahum Goldman, the President of the World
Zionist Organization, was invited to Cairo. The
President of Egypt wanted to speak with him about
peace with Israel. Golda Meir, the Prime Minister, did
not allow him to go. Four years later Egypt started the
Yom Kippur war. Thousands of Israelis paid with their
lives.
This time, too, every one of us may pay with his life for
Sharon's refusal.
Wednesday, January 9, at 8.30 p.m., in the great hall of
