Wenn das zum beispiel feste schuhe oder warme kleidung wäre/n, könnte ich in meiner schule und/oder anderen garantiert viel auftreiben, da viele einfach mehr besitzen als es nötig wäre. Es gäbe dann sicher auch Erwachsene, die den weg von wien in den osten machen würden und die dinge hinbringen könnten. Und damit das alles nicht so gesichtslos verlaufen würde, könnten einige freiwillige aus meiner schule und ich für 1, 2 tage hinreisen um mit den Romas zu musizieren oder ähnliches. Ich kann eigentlich noch nichts genaues sagen bis schulanfang, aber ich wüsste gerne was ihr von dieser idee haltet! August 2004 ab 17 Uhr auf dem Wiener Stephansplatz Die Wiener Friedensbewegung wird auch heuer wieder gemeinsam mit der Hiroshima Gruppe Wien die traditionelle Veranstaltung zum Gedenken an die Opfer der Atombombenabwuerfe auf Hiroshima und Nagasaki durchfuehren. Die Lehre von Hiroshima und Nagasaki hat traurige Aktualitaet: Trotz des weltweiten Widerstands von Millionen Menschen im Jahre 2003 wurde Krieg gefuehrt. Die Menschen im Irak leiden unter den Folgen. Die Entwicklung neuer und vor allem "einsetzbarer" Atomwaffen (wie die sogenannten "Mini Nukes" bzw. bunkerbrechende Waffen, die in den US-Militaer-Plaenen gefordert werden) geht weiter. Atomwaffen der "neuen" Atommaechte wie zum Beispiel Indien und Pakistan gefaehrden die Welt genauso wie die riesigen Arsenale der bekannten "alten" und der "nicht deklarierten". Es zeigt sich deutlich, dass es zur Abschaffung aller Atomwaffen keine vernuenftige Alternative gibt. In letzter Zeit haben sich weltweit eine Reihe prominenter Stimmen erhoben, die vor dem Besitz sogenannter "schmutziger Bomben" durch Terroristen warnen, aber vor allem auch auf die Androhung neuer Atomtests durch die "anerkannten Atommaechte" bzw. auf die Doktrin des Einsatzes von "neuen" Nuklearwaffen hinweisen. Das bedeutet: unser Engagement fuer eine Welt ohne Atomwaffen und ohne Krieg ist notwendiger denn je! Die Hiroshima-Veranstaltung beginnt am Freitag, 6. August 2004, ab 17.00 Uhr auf dem Wiener Stephansplatz (Reden und Ansprachen ab ca. 18 Uhr) und wird mit einem Laternenmarsch zum Teich vor der Karlskirche um ca. 20.30 Uhr abgeschlossen. Im Rahmen der Aktion wollen wir die Grussbotschaften praesentieren. Jahrhunderts und beleuchtet die Situation von Künstlern in der Zeit des Ersten Weltkrieges. Ein Thema, das ganz Europa betrifft. Mit der Neuinszenierung von ∏Die Weise von Liebe und Tod des Cornets Christoph Rilke∑ (Gedicht in Prosa von Rainer Maria Rilke, Musik von Viktor Ullmann) auf der Unteren Valentinalm bei Kötschach-Mauthen trägt das Musiktheater unter der künstlerischen Leitung von Herbert Gantschacher Kultur in ländliche Regionen. Premiere 3. 8., nächste Vorstellung 5.8. Beginn: 19.30 Uhr. Die Auswahl der Spielorte hat die Geschichte vorgegeben. So dient bei ∏∏Die Weise von Liebe und Tod des Cornets Christoph Rilke∑ der Berg Cellon die ungewöhnliche Kulisse. Er spielte im Ersten Weltkrieg eine wesentliche Rolle zur Versorgung der Truppen. Selbstverschuldete Niederlage der IG Metall (aus: Red Newsletter 119, Informationsdienst des ArbeiterInnenstandpunkt, 27. Juli 2004, www.arbeiterInnenstandpunkt.net) In Brechts Stück "Die Mutter" lässt sich der Gewerkschaftsverhandler Karpow nach hartem, vierstündigen "Kampf" die von den ArbeiterInnen geforderte Kopeke Lohnerhöhung gegen das Zugeständnis abringen, mit diesem Geld den Sumpf vor dem Werktor trockenzulegen und die Fabrik zu erweitern. Karpow sieht seinen Erfolge darin, dass Geld schließlich nicht direkt in der Tasche des Kapitalisten landet, sondern im Betrieb, am "Standort" bleibt. Nach 17 Stunden Kampf am grünen Tisch haben Daimler-Betriebsratschef Klemm und die IG Metallverhandler ungleich "mehr" erreicht als Karpow. 500 Millionen Euro bleiben "im Betrieb". Die "Standorte" und die Arbeitsplätze sind gesichert. Der Tarifvertrag auch - im "Prinzip". Die IG Metall hat bewiesen, was die Unternehmerverbände in ihrer Sturheit nie glauben wollten: die Forderungen des Kapitals lassen sich auch dem Boden geltender Tarifverträge und Regulierungen erfüllen. Der Flächentarifvertrag ist wirklich "modern" und flexibel handhabbar. Nach 17 Stunden Verhandlungen habe es Klemm und Hofmann allen Unternehmervertretern gezeigt: Arbeitszeiterhöhung, Flexibilisierung, Spaltung der Belegschaft sind machbar - mit Gesamtbetriebsrat und IG Metall-Spitze. - Ab 2007 werden die Entgelte bei Daimler um 2,79 Prozent gesenkt. - Beschäftigte in den Kantinen usw. müssen in Zukunft zu gleichem Lohn 39 Stunden arbeiten. - Die Forschungs- und Entwicklungsabteilungen haben in Zukunft eine 40-Stunden Woche. Die fünf Stunden Mehrarbeit werden bezahlt. - Junge ArbeiterInnen können nach der Ausbildung für drei Jahre gezwungen werden, in jedem Werk in Deutschland eingesetzt zu werden. Damit könne die "Krise" bei Daimler beendet, könnten Konkurrenzfähigkeit und Profitabilität im Vergleich zu anderen Konzernen wieder hergestellt werden. Dafür geben auch die 3000 leitenden Angestellten des Konzers 10 Prozent ab - Peanuts nach Einkommenssteigerungen von rund 300% seit 1997. Kampfwillige Belegschaft Der Ausverkauf bei Daimler verdeutlicht vor allem eines: Die schäbige Rolle der Betriebsratsfürsten und der Gewerkschaftsspitze angesichts des rollenden Generalangriffs des Kapitals. Bei Daimler konnten die Bosse einen weiteren Erfolg fast kampflos erringen. Die nächsten Konzerne haben schon angekündigt, mit ähnlichen Maßnahmen wie bei Siemens und Daimler, mit der Drohung von Verlagerungen und Schließungen Löhne und Arbeitszeiten massiv anzugreifen. Die Niederlage schmerzt vor allem, weil sie überhaupt nicht notwendig war. Während bei den Abschlüssen von Siemens von den Betriebsräten und Gewerkschaftsführern noch auf die schlechte Organisiertheit, geringe Kampferfahrung und relativ geringes Selbstvertrauen verwiesen werden konnte, lag es bei Daimler offensichtlich anders. Die Belegschaften hatten an bundesweiten und internationalen Aktionstagen ihre Bereitschaft deutlich gemacht, gegen die Angriffe Widerstand leisten zu wollen. Am Aktionstag am 15. Juli legten 10.000e Beschäftigte in der Region Stuttgart (Sindelfingen, Untertürkheim, Mettingen) die Arbeit nieder. Es gab Großdemos mit 10.000en ArbeiterInnen, die wichtige Verkehrsader B 10 wurde in Mettingen blockiert. Auch in anderen Werken gingen die KollegInnen auf die Straße und legten die Arbeit nieder. Die 20.000köpfige Belegschaft in Bremen beteiligte sich geschlossen an der Solidaritätsaktion mit dem Stuttgartern - obwohl sie von der Produktionsverlagerung profitieren sollte. Auch in den Werken in Südafrika und Brasilien wurde die Arbeit niedergelegt. Kurzum, 10.000e ArbeiterInnen waren praktisch bereit, sich nicht mehr gegeneinander ausspielen zu lassen und wollten solidarisch gegen die Forderungen der Konzernspitze vorgehen. Die Auseinandersetzung bei Daimler hätte zum Fanal werden können für einen von Kernsektoren der Arbeiterklasse geführten, erfolgreichen Abwehrkampf. Ein solcher Kampf hätte sich auf einen großen Teil der Belegschaft stützen können. Sicher gab es auch etliche unentschlossene KollegInnen, viele, die aus Angst um ihre Existenz einen Streik scheuten. Diese hätte aber mitgerissen, doch die Solidarität und Entschlossenheit ihrer KollegInnen selbst mutig gemacht werden können. Vor allem hätte ein Streik erlaubt (und auch erfordert), den Angriff der Großkonzerne in Verbindung zu setzen zum Kampf gegen Sozialraub auf allen anderen Ebenen - zur Arbeitszeitverlängerung, Privatisierung und Auslagerung in Öffentlichen Dienst; zum Kampf gegen die Einführung von Hartz IV usw. Warum konnte der Kampf ausverkauft werden? Gerade darum, weil die Beschäftigten bei Daimler, den Willen und auch die Machtposition hatten (und noch immer haben), aus der Defensive in die Offensive zu kommen, ist der Abschluss umso beschämender und markiert eine eindeutige, von der IG Metall und den Betriebsräte wie Klemm verschuldete Niederlage. Die Beschäftigen in vielen Werken haben den Abschluss ganz zurecht als Ausverkauf in einer Nacht- und Nebelaktion begriffen. Die Wut ist in vielen Bereichen deutlich spürbar, wenn auch medial totgeschwiegen. Die Frage ist jedoch, warum konnte es dazu kommen? Sicherlich stützen sich Klemm und die IG Metall-Spitzenverhandler auf politische weniger bewusste oder verängstigte Teile der Belegschaft. Hinzu kommt die übliche Schönrederei des üblichen Abschlusses - eine Schönrederei, die schon das nächste Zurückweichen einläutet. So behaupten die IG-Metall-Chefs Peters, Huber und Hoffmann, dass für den "schmerzlichen" Verzicht die Jobs bis 2012 vor den Unbilden des Kapitalismus sicher wären. Hinter solchen Sprüchen zeigt sich der ganze geistige Horizont der Gewerkschaftsbürokratie. Im entfesselten "Shareholder-Kapitalismus" müsse man zwar unaufhörlich Zugeständnisse und Abkommen zur Flexibilisierung machen, um wenigsten formell den Tarifvertrag zu erhalten. Gleichzeitig könne man aber nach 17stündiger Verhandlung die Zwangsgesetze der Konkurrenz außer Kraft setzen - jedenfalls bei Daimler für acht Jahre. Die ausgehandelte "Arbeitsplatzgarantie" ist nicht mehr als eine Beruhigungspille für die Belegschaft. Auch die "Erpressung" durch den Konzern, der man angeblich chancenlos gegenüberstehe, ist in mehrfacher Hinsicht ein Mythos der Bürokratie. Wahr daran ist nur, dass es in der Tat keine Chance gibt, solange die althergebrachte sozialpartnerschaftliche Politik der Gewerkschaftsführungen weiter gefahren wird. Zweifellos hat der Abschluss Teilen des Kapitals gezeigt, dass man mit Verhandlungen und "Partnerschaft" mit Arbeiterver- und zertretern viel für die Profite erreichen kann. Insofern kamen die lobenden Worte von Regierung, Opposition und Unternehmerbänden an die IG-Metall und an den Betriebsrat ganz zurecht. Vom Standpunkt des Kapitals ist der Verweis auf den Modellcharakter der Vereinbarungen bei Daimler vollauf berechtigt. Ansonsten wäre die "Erpressung" natürlich abwehrbar gewesen - durch Streik und die politische Verallgemeinerung des Kampfes. Dazu hätten sich die IG Metall-Führung und der Betriebsrat freilich mit der herrschenden Klasse anlegen müssen - und genau das wollten sie nicht! This week contacts were made with Dan Morema of the Independent Complaints Directorate in Kimberly. He is the senior person responsible for the investigation into Optel's murder. He was unhelpful and referred the Human Right Groups to Steve Mabona their national non-spokesperson. Morema did however confirm the murder docket has been returned to them by the Director of Public Prosecutions Northern Cape /'for further investigation'/. _ _ _This is VERY BAD NEWS as it means that the prosecuting authority claims to not have sufficient evidence to prosecute._ It is understood now - through information obtained from other sources - that both policemen at the scene of the murder had fired their weapons and consequently they say that it cannot be established which policemen to charge for the murder. _BUT:_ The bullet that killed Optel was later found by members of the community and there was hope that this evidence would have brought some light into the saga and clarified though ballistic analysis, which gun was used by the killer. Something seems to have gone wrong with this evidence. Optel was killed on 4 January this year, to date no charges were filed concerning the implicated the policestation or the policemen involved. It seems likely the murder shall be covered up and breushed under the carpet and that nothing will happen, if public pressure will not mount. Prosecuting the murderer is one thing, but the fact that two suspect policeman who are conspiring to obstruct the judicial process still serve and work in that community, is ridiculous and fundamentally undermines the notion of a police service or community policing. The fact that the police inspector involved even managed to privately use a police helicopter to hunt game on the San farms indicates far more extensive corruption among the police in the Northern Cape. The area commissioner, when questioned about the policemen who went hunting by police-chopper, replied that the inspector had hired the helicopter. But the official and public understanding is that police helicopters are not for rent. Unfortunately there are hardly any funds or resources to pursue this private investigation any further and if you feel moved to do so, we request that you assist in raising public awareness and/or place direct pressure on any authority you feel may help to rectify this situation of gross injustice to the San people. DELIVERED BY THE CHAIR OF DEMMAK - BENNY WENDA Monday, July 26, 2004 CONFLICT IN WEST PAPUA The conflicts the indigenous people of West Papua suffer are with the following groups: The Indonesian State (inc. its military and police) Corporate investment Loggers Missionary and Aid Organisations The Dominant Global PowersCONFLICT WITH THE INDONESIAN STATE Mass Murder Since Indonesia invaded West Papua in 1962 the indigenous population has suffered genocide at the hands of the Indonesian state. Well documented elsewhere [1] between 100,000 to 300,000 indigenous West Papuans have been killed or disappeared at the hands of the Indonesian military and police. Beyond this many carry scars of physical and mental abuse from torture, beatings and general intimidation [2]. Hundreds also languish in Indonesian prisons [3]. Trans Migration Conflict has also arisen due to the hundreds of thousands of Indonesians trans migrated into West Papua [4]. Indigenous land has been appropriated for the trans migration camps and most business and other opportunities are dominated by trans migrants. Forced Suppression of Indigenous Culture Traditional dress and music has at various times been banned by the occupying Indonesian State. Indigenous children are forced to speak Indonesian in schools and learn a false history. Provincial Split In recent years the Government of Indonesia has tried to enforce the splitting of West Papua into three provinces [5]. Conflict has arisen between the indigenous population who oppose the split and want to see an independent West Papua and those close to the government and business who wish to see the split as it will increase profits and power in their hands. CONFLICT WITH CORPORATE INVESTMENT The two main players here are the Freeport goldmine and the BP LNG plant. Conflict due to the Freeport mine has been well documented [6] and probably represents one of the most extreme examples of the capitalist threat to indigenous peoples and their lands. It has displaced thousands of people from their lands, killed hundreds in the process via its collusion and finance of the Indonesian military and killed many more people, swathes of forests and an entire river system with its ensuing pollution. BP are trying to do things differently but are beginning to have the same effect as Freeport and ultimately will destroy the lives and land of the indigenous population in its area of operation. Already conflict has been generated between local villages over compensation. The indigenous population have also protested at the BP plant to complain about the many problems introduced by the new investment [7]. CONFLICT WITH LOGGERS As the rainforests of Indonesia continue to disappear, the forests of West Papua are being logged at an ever increasing rate. Being home and food source for the indigenous population there is increasing conflict between the indigenous population and loggers. Much of the logging is also carried out in conjunction with the Indonesian army who use force to access areas of forest. Recently indigenous Papuans have been shot and arrested for attempting to resist logging in their area [8]. CONFLICT WITH MISSIONARY AND AID ORGANISATIONS Although most of the indigenous population of West Papua may not recognise this conflict, it is there and it is growing. Missionaries came to our land and changed our cultures. Mostly we accepted but now we are surprised when the missionaries do not help when the Indonesian army come to kill us. If this continues there will be more conflict. Also they have brought with them along with many of the Aid organisations the ideology that development and western lifestyles are "good". This is beginning to produce conflict as we Papuans never used money or commodified things but now we have been shown and now there is distrust and problems [9]. CONFLICT WITH THE DOMINANT GLOBAL POWERS Although it may not be easily visible there is obviously conflict between the indigenous population of West Papua and the dominant global powers. These include the G8, IMF, World Bank, WTO, UN etc. It is through the interests of the global elite that West Papua was denied its freedom and handed to Indonesia via the decision at the UN general assembly to take note of the fraudulent Act of Free Choice [10]. It is the likes of Britain, Australia and America that arm, fund and train the Indonesian military who kill us. It is their corporations that destroy our land and our culture and it is their ideology which gets imposed on us via Western missionaries and Aid organisations. STATEMENT OF POSITION OF THE OPM (FREE PAPUA MOVEMENT) AND DEMMAK (KOTEKA TRIBAL ASSEMBLY) WHO REPRESENT THE INDIGENOUS POPULATION OF WEST PAPUA. We are not terrorists! We do not want modern life!
