Berg video filmed from inside AbuGhraib prison
The video footage of an American citizen's execution has raised numerous
questions concerning its authenticity as evidence grows that the event took
place from inside the U.S. controlled Abu Ghraib prison.
Berg was last seen alive on 10 April, when his father Michael Berg believes
he was killed - two weeks before the Abu Ghraib prisoner abuse scandal broke
in the world's media. Some discussions focus on the timing of the video's
release - guaranteed to divert attention from the outrage over US abuse of
Iraqis.
Video oddities
At first glance, people from around the world who saw the video were asking
why Nick Berg was wearing an orange jumpsuit - just like US prisoners wear.
The circumstances of the video release are also strange. A Reuters
journalist in Dubai first named the Muntada al-Ansar al-Islami website as
the source for the video - at www.al-ansar.biz. Although the site has now
been shut down, Aljazeera looked at the site within 90 minutes of the story
breaking - and could find no such video footage. But Fox News, CNN and the
BBC were all able to download the footage from the Arabic-only website and
report the story within the hour.
It has been claimed that evidence shows that the Berg decapitation was
filmed inside the walls of the notorious Abu Ghraib prison. The following
points have been made by readers of Aljazeera:Notice the standard US Military Police issued prisoner overalls that
Nicholas Berg is wearing. The orange color prisoner overalls that Nicholas
Berg is wearing are identical to the ones Islamic prisoners are made to wear
by the US Military Police at the Guantanamo, Cuba.
Notice the white plastic chair that Nicholas Berg is sitting on. It is
identical to the white plastic chair that the now infamous Pfc. Lynddie
England is sitting on at the Abu Ghraib prison as shown here. This same
white plastic chair can also be seen in other photographs of U.S. torture in
the same prison.
The color and texture of the wall as shown in the frames taken from the
video are the same as those of the Abu Ghraib prison.Towards the end of the video, at frames 9306 through 9368, a person with a
US military cap temporarily pokes about a quarter of his left head into the
video. His neck, left ear and part of his cap and visor can be seen. Look at
the right hand side as someone with a military cap, possibly with a second
video camera, pokes his head into the video.The body is completely motionless even as the knife is brought to bear - not
so much as an instinctive wriggle. More graphically, some claim that cutting
the throat's artery would cause a significant amount of blood to gush out.
But little emerges and when the head was raised - not a drop of blood is
seen to fall.
Family blames government
A US newspaper claims an official familiar with the case knew that FBI
agents had interrogated Berg, but had left him for two weeks because he was
in Iraqi - not American - custody. But the official was unable to clarify
the legal difference between the two, given the US occupation. On 5 April,
Berg's family filed a suit in federal court in Philadelphia - contending
that their son was being held illegally by the US military in Iraq. The next
day, he was released and left to get himself home. The last time the family
heard from him was on 9 April. His headless body was found near Mosul on 8
May. "That's really what cost my son his life, the fact that the United
States government saw fit to keep him in custody for 13 days without any of
his due process or civil rights," Michael Berg said.
Final question
Some have focused on the accent of the purported executioner. Many deny the
accent is either Iraqi or Jordanian - while claims the voice is Egyptian or
Iranian have been made. The Jordanian accused of the beheading Berg is
himself believed to have been killed in March, according to two Islamist
groups. An eight-page leaflet circulated this week in Falluja said Abu Musab
al-Zarqawi was killed in the Sulaimaniya mountains of northern Iraq during a
US bombing. But even if it were the Jordanian, one discussion room member
observes his face is so well-known that "why would he bother to cover it?"

Freie Software - Freie Gesellschaft?
Zunehmend geistern Begriffe wie Open Source und Linux durch die Medien,
waehrend klassische Konzerne schon gerne mal durch die Ausbreitung
freier Software die "Gefahr" des aufsteigenden Kommunismus
heraufbeschwoeren, scheinen gerade weite Teile der Linken von diesen
Entwicklungen voellig unberuehrt. In der taeglichen Arbeit wird
weitgehend auf propietaere Formate und Betriebssysteme zurueckgegriffen.
Die politische Komponente und Relevanz von Open Source, die
Notwendigkeit von offenen Standards wird nur selten erkannt bzw. auch
tatsaechlich eingesetzt. Diese Veranstaltung moechte diese Konzepte -
durchaus kritisch - auch aus einem politischen Blickwinkel etwas naeher
beleuchten.
Zu diesem Zweck gibt es zuerst die Dokumentation "Codename: Linux" (52
min.) und anschliessend Vortrag und Diskussion zur Thematik.

Antidiskriminierungsgesetz - Die Regierungsparteien wollen an diesem Abend
ihre Vorstellungen einer "Umsetzung" der EU-Richtlinien zu diesem Thema in
Geseztesform beschließen. Die Gesetzesvorlage der Regierung ist völlig
unzulänglich, teilweise äußerst bedenklich, vermutlich verfassungswidrig und
den EU-Richtlinien nicht genügend. Da die blauschwarze Regierung ihre
Vorlage wieder in ihrer berüchtigten Speed-kills-Mentalität durch das
Parlament peitscht, konnte der Kundgebungstermin nur sehr kurzfristig
angesetzt und beworben werden. Bitte verbreitet den Termin noch, so gut ihr
könnt, weiter! (Aufruftext in Anhang1)

Kicken unterm Flakturm
Die Kulturinitiative Aktionsradius Augarten hat nach langjährigen
Bemühungen erreicht, dass im Vorjahr einer der Sportplätze des Augartens
in schulfreien Zeiten der Öffentlichkeit nicht mehr verschlossen bleibt.
Wie im Vorjahr findet auch heuer ein "Befreiungsfest" in Form eines
Fußballturniers statt, das der Aktionsradius gemeinsam mit dem Augustin
veranstaltet.
Die teilnehmenden Teams: Sschwarz-Weiß Augustin, Wiener
Tschuschenkapelle, FC Schönbrunn (Team der Bundesgärtner), FC
Friedhofstribüne (Team der WSC-Fans) und Kosovo-Familie (im Augarten
"beheimatetes" Migranten-Team; Vorjahressieger).
Das Turnier findet am Sonntag, 6. Juni, ab 13.30 Uhr am Sportplatz
Auwiese in der Nähe des kleineren Augarten-Flakturms statt. SW Augustin
bittet seine Fans um lärmende Unterstützung. Nach der Siegerehrung, ab
18.30 Uhr, macht die Tschuschenkapelle das, was sie vermutlich besser
kann. Mit ihrer Musik macht sie das Parkfest selbst für AntikickerInnen
attraktiv. Der Eintritt ist auch abends frei.

Vorstadtzentrum und Wiener Pataphysikalische Theateranstalt
präsentieren ein Kooperationsprojekt:
"The Wonderful Drama of Punch & Judy"
und zeigen die wahrlich rare Figur des Kasperls "Mister Punch" und seine
protodemokratische "Schöpfung aus Gewalt". Anschließend verdauen wir
die Komik in einer analytischen Verortung dieses hölzernen Kerls
zwischen "rotem Kasper" und Commedia dell'Arte.

Das frühe neunzehnte Jahrhundert zeigt in ganz Europa sein
zwielichtiges Gesicht. Neben industrieller Revolution, zunehmender
Herrschaft des Bürgertums, Ausbildung der Nationalstaaten und Reaktion
breitet sich vor allem die Armut aus und formt die Klasse des
Proletariats, die Besitzlosen. Ebenso erleben die Formen der
Volkskunst mit ihrer derb-komödiantischen und
demokratisch-respektlosen Tendenz eine neue Renaissance. Im London
jener Zeit kann der aufmerksame Passant auf den Straßen, der "Heimat"
der Unterschichten, häufig ein Schauspiel geboten bekommen, ein
Kasperltheater mit einem Helden aus hartem Holz. So schreibt ein
Besucher der Großstadt 1829: "Amüsanter ist dagegen ein anderes
hiesiges Straßenspiel, eine echte National-Komödie. Es ist dies
>Punch<, der englische, ganz vom italienischen verschiedene
Pulcinella, er ist der gottloseste Komiker, der mir noch vorgekommen
ist, und so complet ohne Gewissen, wie das Holz, aus dem er gemacht
ist, und ein wenig auch die Klasse der Nation, welche er
repräsentiert." Dieser Punch findet sich heute nicht in den Programmen
zur Kinderunterhaltung wie sein gezähmter Verwandter, der Kasperle,
sondern ist längst Rarität, spottet er doch allen Konventionen seiner
Zeit ebenso als der unsern. Blutrünstige Inkarnation der enttarnenden
Gewalt, grotesk komisch und doch unbekümmert naiv verweigert und
entieht sich der urwüchsige Egoist Punch, nicht Tod und Teufels
achtend, allen Ansprüchen jedweder Obrigkeit. Punch, das ist der
anarchistische Rebell der angelsächsischen Unterklassen, die Spucke
vor den Häusern feiner Pinkeln und das stolze Selbstbekenntnis jener
Lumpen, denen das Recht auf Menschlichkeit genommen ist. Was die
Pataphysikalische Theateranstalt uns hier bietet, ist die einmalige
Gelegenheit, Punch hautnah kennenzulernen, uns zu ergötzen an einer
ungeschminkten, derben, grotesken, protodemokratischen Komik und im
Lachen unser menschlich-ambivalentes Verhältnis hinsichtlich der
Gewalt zu erleben, wie es in unserer geglätteten Welt der Konsumkultur
nur noch ganz selten möglich ist. Großartig!

bass and computer"

A piece for two instruments and a saxophone player: Die Komposition basiert
auf der Idee, zwei Musikinstrumente (in dem Fall: Altsaxophon und Computer)
auf eine gleichberechtigte Art und Weise gegenüberzustellen und
Kommunikationsmöglichkeiten zu (er-)finden, die es einem einzelnen
Instrumentalisten ermöglichen, beide Instrumente gleichzeitig zu bedienen.
Das
Saxophon wird als formveränderndes Gebilde betrachtet - Tasten, Klappen -,
die
im Grund 2 Positionen haben: offen und geschlossen, bzw. 1:0 ? eine Sprache
also, die der Computer versteht. Ein speziell entwickeltes (hybrid)
Saxophon stellt
über ein MIDI Interface direkten Kontakt zum Computer her. Der Musiker kann
nunmehr mit dem Musikinstrument "Computer" in Echtzeit spielen, ohne das
Saxophon jemals aus der Hand zu geben. Computer bieten zudem die
Möglichkeit, verschiedene vorprogrammierte Verhaltensmuster mit einem
gewissen Maß an Aleatorik zu versehen um damit eine eigenwillige Agilität
zu simulieren, wodurch wieder eine Art von Kommunikation zwischen Computer
und Musiker entsteht.
Miha Ciglar wurde 1980 in Maribor, Slowenien geboren.1997 - 2000 Musikschule
Maribor (Saxophon). 1999?2001 Studium der Musikpädagogik in Maribor, seit
2001 Universität für Musik in Graz, Abteilung Jazz.
A composition for monitor, projection, bass and computer: ___Die
Video-Komposition die als Partitur und Grundlage der Audio-Komposition
dient,
wird von einem DVD Player abgespielt und erscheint auf dem Monitor bzw. wird
auf die Wand projiziert. ___Während das Video läuft treffen Elektronen
auf den
Bildschirm auf, wo sie mittels eines einfachen Coaxial-Stereo-Kabels
aufgefangen
werden um die Grundlage der Audio-Komposition zu liefern. Dieses Rohmaterial
wird mit einem Computer mit Live-Input und einem Audiomischer
weiterverarbeitet. ___Auf der anderen Seite steht ein Bassist, der auf die
inhaltlichen Impulse der Komposition reagieren soll.

Das globalisierungskritische Netzwerk Attac, der Chaos Computer Club und
das Netzwerk Neue Medien lehnen den Beschluss des EU-Ministerrates zur
Zulassung von Software-Patenten ab. Die AktivistInnen befürchten eine
Monopolisierung von Wissen und eine Bedrohung für freie Software. "Der so
genannte Kompromiss des Rates ist ein klares Votum pro Software-Patente.
Sollte dieser Beschluss Gesetz werden, werden Softwarepatente auf breiter
Basis legalisiert. Dies wäre eine existenzbedrohende Katastrophe für freie
Software-Entwickler und für viele kleine und mittelständische
Software-Unternehmen", so Andy Müller-Maguhn vom Chaos Computer Club (CCC).
Das Votum des europäischen Rats für Softwarepatente wirft auch
beunruhigende Fragen über die Lobbymacht der großen Konzerne auf, die
offenbar in der Lage sind, Entscheidungen auf EU-Ebene selbst gegen den
Willen der Mehrheit der Bevölkerung und des Parlaments durchzudrücken. Die
wesentlichen deutschen Änderungsvorschläge zur Einschränkung von
Softwarepatenten seien abgelehnt worden, kritisierte Oliver Moldenhauer vom
Attac-Koordinierungskreis. So werde nicht mehr verlangt, dass ein Patent
Prozesse beschreibt, die physikalische Naturkräfte nutzen. "Offensichtlich
waren die bisherigen Aussagen des Justizministeriums, sich gegen die
Legalisierung von Softwarepatenten einzusetzen, und nicht für die
Richtlinie zu stimmen, reine Lippenbekenntnisse", kritisierte Moldenhauer
die Abgabe der letztendlich entscheidenden deutschen Stimmen.
Softwarepatente auf EU-Ebene sind damit allerdings noch nicht beschlossene
Sache. Die Richtlinie tritt erst in Kraft, wenn das neugewählte Parlament
ihr zustimmen sollte. Moldenhauer: "Wir werden auf jeden Fall weiter gegen
die Monopolisierung von Software mittels Patenten kämpfen."
Markus Beckedahl vom Netzwerk Neue Medien kritisierte die möglichen
Auswirkungengen der Entscheidung: "Unnötige neue Barrieren entstehen, die
einer Entfaltung von neuen Produktionsmodellen einer Wissensgesellschaft
entgegenstehen. Wenn technische Standards und Protokolle patentiert werden
dürfen, können Mitbewerber aus Märkten ausgeschlossen werden. Damit besteht
die Gefahr, europäische klein- und mittelständische Unternehmen nur noch
von der Gnade der Inhaber der Patentmonopole existieren können."

Im EU-Ministerrat herrschte am Dienstag alles andere als Einigkeit über die
weitere Vorgangsweise in Sachen Softwarepatente.
Dass der "neue" Richtlinienentwurf überhaupt den Ministerrat passierte, war
auf einen Positionswechsel Deutschlands in den letzten Tagen
zurückzuführen, berichtet "The Register".
In der Abstimmung im COREPER, dem Vorbereitungsgremium für Ratstagungen,
hatten nur ein paar Stimmen zum Erreichen der Sperrminorität gefehlt,
ansonsten wäre der gegenwärtige Entwurf überhaupt blockiert worden,
schreibt das britische Branchenmagazin.
Deutschland wollte den Grad an Technizität, den eine Erfindung aufweisen
muss, um überhaupt patentierbar zu sein, in Artikel 2b höher geschraubt und
präziser definiert haben. Nach kleinen Änderungen stimmte man schließlich
dafür.
Geändert wurde auch Artikel 4, der die Grenzen der Patentierbarkeit
festlegt und die "Erfindungshöhe" definiert.

Below is an excellent opinion piece published today in the Gainesville Sun,
offering a first-hand account reflecting on the events around the first
execution of a non-consenting prisoner in the current death penalty
era. Written by our friend Rev. Larry Reimer, it is with hesitation and
respect that I offer a correction, or at least, a different perspective on
one important matter. The associated press article that was released
yesterday and appears in newspapers throughout Florida today makes the same
mistake. (See the AP story at http://www.fadp.org/news/newsindex.html )
Larry writes that the death penalty was reinstated in 1976. Technically,
July 2, 1976 is the date when SCOTUS (The Supreme Court of the United
States) upheld the new Georgia death penalty law in a decision known as
Gregg v. Georgia. By default, other state laws that met the same standards
were also upheld, or if they were challenged, they were found to meet the
same standards that were set with Gregg v. Georgia. But actually, after
SCOTUS struck down all the laws with Furman v. Georgia on June 29, 1972,
many states wrote new laws.
Florida was the first state to write a new death penalty statute, which it
did with a special session of the Legislature in November, 1972. Florida's
first death sentence under the new law was in November, 1973, and we are
one the eve of the 25th anniversary of Florida's first execution, which was
May 25, 1979. The extermination of John Spenkelink was also the first
execution of a non-consenting prisoner in the current death penalty era
(post-Furman). Gary Gilmore was the first person executed, but he waived
his appeals and had a state-assisted suicide on January 17, 1977, in Utah.
Its all semantics, but I think it is an important distinction. It is not
accurate to say the death penalty was abolished, or even that there was a
moratorium for those four years and four days. No official body ever said
"we will no longer execute our citizens," and until that happens we cannot
say we have true abolition. What SCOTUS said is, "we must write new, fair
laws" (That's a paraphrase - my language). In fact, there was a
*de-facto* (not imposed by anyone, but there nevertheless) moratorium on
executions in place, starting not in 1972, but in 1966, when the last
execution under the old laws took place.
Florida started sentencing people to death under its new law in 1973, and
by the time of its first execution in 1979 there were 134 human beings
under sentence of death. Ask anyone who has been there, and they can tell
you - the weight of the death penalty is heavy upon them from the moment
the sentence is handed down, if not from the moment they first learn that
they will face the death penalty. I don't know how often they actually use
the phrase "dead man walking" to alert others to the transport of a
condemned prisoner, but that speaks to this argument. The death penalty is
much more than the moment a life is snuffed from a citizen by the state.
I noted the dates June 29, 1972 to July 2, 1976. It is during these four
years and four days that the constitutionality of death penalty laws in the
United States was in question. And it is on these two anniversaries and
the days in between that abolitionists gather every year at SCOTUS to renew
ourselves and call for the abolition of the death penalty in what has
become a staple in the calendar of annual dates for commemoration on this

I hadn't planned to write this much, or to send it this far, but the below
is important. Weeks ago I asked those who had recollections about the
first killing to share them with me. Of course, I was only 12 at the time,
so what I recall is nothing! But one person responded - Suzanne Carter (a
leader in the Terre Haute Abolition Network) was also quite young at the
time, but living in Florida she was aware of what was going on.

The death penalty is not a form of justice
There is no proof that capital punishment, which cannot be administered
evenly nor accurately, is a deterrent to murder.
For four years there was no death penalty in America. The U.S. Supreme
Court abolished capital punishment in 1972, ruling in Furman v. Georgia
that executions were carried out in an inconsistent and discriminatory
manner.
In 1976, the court approved new death penalty guidelines in Gregg v.
Georgia, and the states stepped up to the plate and rewrote their death
penalty statues to fit the new guidelines.
We in Florida were number one in the dubious category of carrying out the
first involuntary execution after the reinstatement. (Gary Gilmore had
demanded to have his sentence meted out quickly before a Utah firing squad
on January 17, 1977.)
Florida Gov. Bob Graham signed John Spenkelink's death warrant in 1976.
Spenkelink, 30 years old, was convicted of killing a man who had sodomized
him and forced him to play Russian roulette with a loaded pistol. His first
death warrant was stayed three days before his scheduled execution.
Graham issued a new death warrant to be carried out on May 22. On that date
a group of us began what became a tradition, standing in silent vigil
outside the Florida State Prison when executions were scheduled. It was a
disorganized affair made up of tired, dirty, sometimes hysterical, other
times angry, and often shouting people. I found myself wishing they would
maintain as much dignity as Spenkelink himself.
At the vigil, different speakers crowded around a bullhorn. One who stood
out was Rev. Joe Ingle of the Southern Coalition of Jails and Prisons.
After he said a few words, someone asked him to lead a prayer. Joe looked
around rather reluctantly and then prayed for John's life. Even prayer
seemed hopeless.
At 12:30 a.m. word came that the Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall
had issued a stay. This was followed by another longer stay from the
Federal Circuit Court. We all took prayer, persistence and presence more
seriously. If the execution was not carried out by Friday noon, the warrant
would expire and the process would have to be redone. Where there was life,
we remembered, there was hope.
Back then we thought that perhaps we could hold back the tide and prevent
this and other executions from ever coming back to Florida. Looking back
from the perspective of 57 executions later in Florida alone, I realize how
naive we were.
On Friday, May 25 at 2:00 a.m. I was awakened by a call from my friend John
Talbird, one of the organizers of Citizens Against the Death Penalty. The
warrant had been vacated and the execution was scheduled for 10 a.m. that
day.
My wife, Sandy, and I drove to Raiford for our third vigil. Our confused
band of protestors was still leaderless. Some beat on oil drums and
shouted. One small group seemed overly emotional until I realized they were
the mothers, sisters, and wives of men on Death Row.
An African American minister, Greg Thomas, managed to gather most of the
crowd into a circle. We sang, prayed, and read scripture. Outside the
circle they watched. At ten o'clock we fell silent.
We heard nothing until 10:20, when Spenkelink's brother-in-law walked by
the fence saying, "He's dead but they won't let us in." Then the witnesses
to the execution were driven by in the unmarked white van. We knew it was
over.
The Rev. Tom Feamster, an Episcopal priest from a nearby parish who had
ministered to John Spenkelink for the past three years, came by to talk
with us. Tom had not been allowed to be with Spenkelink during his last
hours. Florida statue at that time did not allow a death-watch prisoner to
have clergy of choice with him. It only allowed clergy of choice to witness
the execution. So Tom, at Spenkelink's request, witnessed John's death,
reading the Beatitudes in the final minutes of life.
Tom said that John's wishes were that we not pray for him but rather that
we pray for ourselves, our state and our nation, which could do such a
thing as this.
Nobody knew back then if Florida would be successful in beginning
executions again. Florida Attorney General Jim Smith said that Spenkelink's
lawyers would probably keep finding sympathetic judges to beat the death
warrant. Smith, however, beat the lawyers.
This is what the death penalty came down to and where it remains. The last
lawyer to get the last judge in the last hour wins. John Spenkelink lost
this race.
No one knows why Spenkelink was chosen out of the then 134 prisoners on
Death Row. He was poor. He was a drifter. He was from out of state, all of
which are typical for those executed in Florida. As Spenkelink said, "Them
without the capital get the punishment."
Florida has executed 58 people since 1979. Today there are 367 people on
Florida's Death Row and about 3,600 people on death row nationally.
I still visit Death Row. I work with and for the victims of violence. I
continue to stand in silent vigil when the state executes its inmates,
because I do not want it ever said that the state killed its own citizens
without anyone standing in protest.
I do believe that one day the United States will join most of the civilized
world and rid itself of the death penalty. There is no proof that capital
punishment is a deterrent to murder. It has become clear that it cannot be
administered evenly let alone accurately.
Its mistakes cannot be undone. It is expensive, costing much more with its
prerequisite trials and appeals than housing an inmate for life without
parole. It dehumanizes us all.
Shortly after Spenkelink's execution, Jacksonville police officers
made up 20,000 T-shirts with a picture of the electric chair and the
caption "1 down, 133 to go." The shirts sold out in a week.
I believe with Martin Luther King Jr. that "the arc of the moral universe
is long but it bends toward justice." I know that capital punishment is not
justice. I don't know how long before we figure that out.

Senior clerics of Najaf respond to Hassan Nasrallah
Muqtada's followers intimidate civilians and their
movement is illegal

The Marji'iyah (senior Shia clerics) of the Najaf
Hawza gave a joint response to what Hassan Nasrallah,
the General Secretary of Lebanese Hezbollah, had said
in his Friday sermon with regard to the situation in
Najaf and Karbala. The statement was signed with the
collective name of Ulemma of the Hawza Al-Ilmiyyah of
Najaf and Karbala and excerpts from it were given to
Azzaman (Translation courtesy of Michael Subotin):

1. It is the movement of Sayyid Muqtada Al-Sadr that
is losing legitimacy in the strictest sense, and not
the one led by Grand Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Al-Sistani,
the overall, most learned and assidious Marji' of Iraq
and not the rest of the Marji's, not even Grand
Ayatollah Sayyid Kadhum Al-Ha'eri, nor other people of
fortitude and experience in the field of politics who
are seared by the fire of the Iraqi crisis and its
complications wrought by Muslim brethren from
well-known Islamic political movements and
organizations, nor others besides them, people of
judgement, experience and education, engaged in
political affairs.
2. It is the movement of Sayyid Muqtada that has
encouraged the occupiers to cross the red lines. And
as aside from that, the American occupiers while
storming into Iraq and marching towards Baghdad
through Najaf and Karbala did not commit the
stupidities and insolence with regard to the
sanctities in the two holy cities they have committed
now.
3. And it is clear that the organization of Sayyid
Muqtada - and whoever follows the Sadrist movement -
were the first to violate the sanctity of the yard of
Haydari Shareef (Imam Ali's shrine in Najaf) when they
fired shots inside it at Sayyid Abdul Majeed Al-Kho'ei
and killed Sayyid Yasiri within it and wounded Sayyid
Majeed and killed Sayyid Hayder Al-Kelidar afterwards.
And they are the very same who ignited the fuse of the
bloody fight, whose victims among gathered believers
were sacrificed over control of the shrine of Imam
Hussein (peace be upon him), and it is possible for
our lord [Nasrallah] to verify the former by asking
his Excellence the Marji' Ayatollah Sheikh Ishaq
Al-Fayyadh and from the sons of his Excellence the
Marji' Ayatollah Sayyid Muhammad Sa'eed Al-Hakim and
the latter with the help of his Excellence Sheikh
'Abdul Mahdi Al-Karbala'i, the representative of the
Marji'iyah in Karbala and from his Excellence Sayyid
Muhammad Ridha Al-Sistani [the son of Grand Ayatollah
Sistani] in person.
4. The organization of Sayyid Muqtada is now carrying
out intimidation of the general public and arrests of
citizens, not only those whom they call collaborators
with the occupation, the police, owners of stores
selling foodstuffs to occupiers and others, but also
students of religious sciences opposed to them and
some of the members of the Badr organization [SCIRI],
in addition to raiding offices of the Da'wa party in
Kufa, and you can verify the former by asking his
Excellence Sheikh Muhammad Mahdi Al-Asifi, his
Excellence Sheikh Muhammad Hadi Al Radhi, and his
Excellence Sheikh Muhammad Al-Yaqubi, and the latter
by asking his Excellence Sayyid Omar Al-Hakim and Dr.
Ibrahim Al-Ja'fari [GC member].
5. The firing of shots at the great dome of the shrine
of Imam Ali (peace be upon him) [in Najaf], according
to some specialists was most likely from the weapons
of Sayyid Muqtada's followers and not from the weapons
of others, inasmuch as the time of shooting was the
day fighting flared up in the Valley of Peace
cemetery, and there wasn't any fighting from the side
of Alnabi street, whereas you claimed in your
important sermon that the direction of the shooting
was from the side of the Qibla gate [to the shrine],
which is the side of Alnabi street.
6. The strike on the home and office of his Excellence
Grand Ayatollah Ali Al-Sistani happened within the
security perimeter whose every span was controlled by
the organization of Sayyid Muqtada, and the office of
Marji' Ali [Sistani] was in the immediate proximity to

PRESSEMITTEILUNG DES GRAZER KPÖ-GEMEINDERATSKLUBS
Montag, 24. Mai 2004KPÖ-Stadträte arbeiten weiter für die Bevölkerung
"Sollte es noch in dieser Gemeinderatsperiode zu einer Änderung der
Ressortverteilung in der Stadtregierung kommen, so wäre dies ausschließlich
im Zusammenhang mit beabsichtigten Privatisierungen und Ausgliederungen von
Gemeindebetrieben zu sehen. Offensichtlich meint man, ein leichteres Spiel
zu haben, wenn KPÖ-Mandatrinnen oder Mandatare nicht mehr unmittelbar für
diese Bereiche zuständig sein würden.Deshalb würde sich die KPÖ-Graz auch entschieden gegen solche Absichten zur
Wehr setzen.
Wir treten seit jeher für eine Verkleinerung des Stadtsenates von 9 auf 7
ein, um damit Einsparungssignale zu setzen. Dies war schon 1998 der Fall.
Die jetzt angedachte Variante, der KPÖ-Ressortverantwortung zu entziehen,
würde aber keinen einzigen Stadtratsposten einsparen.Als StadträtInnen der KPÖ glauben wir, dass die Arbeit in unseren Ressorts
