A young man was killed during a forced deportation by swiss police on March 17, 2010 in Zurich. Some information from Switzerland about what happened so far.
About 60 people took part in a rally at the deportation-prison at the airport of zurich on thursday after the death of a 29 years old nigerian refugee during an attempt to deport a group of nigerians to Lagos, Nigeria.
On Saturday 20th March 2010 more than 1000 people showed their protest against racist and systematic repression and marginalization in a demonstration through the city centre of zurich.
On Sunday 21st March repeatedly a rally was held in front of the prisonwalls at the airport of zurich to express solidarity with the refugees held prisoners. With a number of 150 people participation was more than doubled, which shows the growing public concern about the ongoing repression and cruel enforcement of racist laws. We received word of increasing stress and pressure inside the deportation-prison and that many people are going on hunger strike.
We are eager to increase public alertness on the extensive and largely ignored racist structures embodied by the policy of the federal and county-based bureau of migration and refugees, the repressive and more overtly racist practice of the police. Additionally these structures feature institutions commissioned in conveniant public-private-parternships to administer accomodation, emergency aid and occasional methods of ruining self-esteem, comfort and well-being of their so called clients on a profit basis (e.g. ORS Service AG which recently found the windows of their head-office broken presumably by unsatisfied customers).
There were also more specific forms of protest in the recent past to be named such as the march to the migration-office in zurich by more than 100 refugees and activists. This caused its afternoon close-down allegedly in order protect its clientele, which happened to be the same who protested in front of its closed doors.
We hereby express our solidarity with all organizations and individuals who oppose the racist policy and repression in dealing with migration in the European Union and all over the world.
We oppose governmentally authorized murder and racism. We demand to unconditionally stop imprisonment and deportation of refugees. We claim the right for everyone to move and settle without restriction all over the world.
Deportation is murder!
No nation, no borders!
