Unrest has broken out at a refugee detention camp on the outskirts of Brussels. Inmates set fire to a rubbish bin in the toilet which spread quickly and damaged two wings of the building before being brought under control. Others set fire to mattresses.
Dozens of asylum seekers have been relocated to detention centres across Belgium.
It's clear what happened, even with a wing on fire and rooms ablaze inmates continued to throw fuel onto the fire to keep it burning. This was act of wanton violence and destruction." said Dominique Ernould spokesperson for the centre.
Others suggest the rioting is connected to the case of a 19-year-old Ecuadorian Rothman Salazar who is currently fighting deportation.
In 2006 the Steenokkerzeel complex was at the centre of demonstrations against the treatment of women and children held there.
